DO EVIL PEOPLE EXIST?

Society labels us good or bad depending on our actions. In that sense, good people have done bad acts and bad people do some good acts.

I've heard the human version of Ibless/Lucifer exist. What is the criteria for a person to be considered evil?
And how can someone be evil if they do good sometimes?

well... let’s say Tom is good man that gives back to his community. Tom also is loved by his community. One day tom wins the lottery, he wins £1,000,000. Tom, being the nice person he is chooses to donate the money to a special cause.

Tom is also a pedophile, he raped his nephew.

Tom is an evil man.

Someone thats evil is one that takes pleasure in inflicting pain and has little to no conscious.
He or she is aware of what they are doing but they simply dont care.

However, everyone has evil in them, laying dormant.
What triggers that evil is suffering and pain.

It depends on the world and not you, which is so mind blowing if you think about it.
Only those who know how to deal with pain without losing themselves can be called good.

What's considered good or evil depends on those who hold the power in society. What was seen as evil now was widely accepted in some places in the past and what is seen as good now, was seen as an evil act in the past too.

We should measure these actions accordingly and punish people who commit bad acts. People have the ability to change which I think is a great thing, so it's difficult to give someone a blanket statement.

This is why we should follow the laws that have been put down by Islam as it gives us a clear criteria of what is acceptable or not with less confusion.

But then how do you explain kids from a young age being cruel to animals and then turning out to be a serial killers? Isn’t it possible that some of us are just born evil?

Yes, those are called psychopaths but they might be sociopaths too.

A psychopath is born that way however a sociopath is molded by his environment
or the world from a early age.

A child that only knows pain from the beginning, with none to teach them morals
act out simply because they dont know any better.

Nature vs nurture.

Radical

Been there, done that
I contend that true evil does not exist in intention, but certainly does in effect. Most if not all human beings are not driven purely by the desire to "do evil" -- we are driven by impulses for safety/security, power/possession, and other base instincts common to most animals. But when the impact of these impulsive actions leads to acts that result in (1) significant harm to an individual or group (2) an end that is both not intentional and has no redeeming positive purpose or outcome -- this is true evil. Hitler's Holocaust translated to death and destruction on an enormous scale, and then did not bring about his desired outcome of "a better society". Therefore, the Holocaust can be seen as truly evil
because millions were slaughtered and the intended positive result did not occur. And of course the Nazis lost or it would be seen as a heroic thing today

But bombing Iraqi villages every week is seen as morally okay because it serves its purpose of bringing profits under the name of 'war on terrorism'

History is always written by the victors, horrible acts can be framed as justified actions, The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The Quran provides the duality of evil in the form of Iblees, an individual who rivalled the angels in piety before the creation of man (nurture) vs. the evil boy Nabi Musa AS and Khidr encounter in Surah Kahf (nature? - young boy born to good parents who somehow became evil)

Many scholars describe two types of shaiytan - shaiytan al jinni and shaiytan al insii - jinn devils and human devils
