I agree with you, a house is obviously a great financial investment for the future, but Riba is ultimately why Somalis don't buy homes. Somalis are more religious than Arabs, Pakis, and other Muslims. Somalis follow the deen correctly compared to other Muslims.

The job market in Toronto is garbage as well, young Somalis will have a tough time finding a well-paying job out of university and the cost of living in Toronto is extremely high. Even white people are having a hard time in the city. The best place in Canada to own a home is Toronto or Vancouver cuz you can flip the house and get a 1.5 mill. Why would Somalis want to by a house in trash Edmonton or Calgary where the whole market is contingent on the oil? Why would they buy a house in Eastern Canada (NS, PEI) when they won't make a profit from selling their house? It wouldn't make sense.

However I agree. Many parents allow their kids to take student loans but other forms of interest are haraam. There's a lot of hypocrisy.
