As a qualified anthropologist of the Somali race in the UK please let me explain the situation you.
1.inferiority complex and self hatred exists amongst both Somali males and females in the UK.however it is more evident in females as many households have broken down and the men in their lives have let the xalimos down. The generosity of the welfare in Western Europe doesn't help the situation. You have a system essentially encouraging single mother lifestyle or at least rewarding in the event of family breakdown.Inferiority complex is further heightened by media conditioning/hated of Somali people by way of stereotyping.
2. Since the UK community is apparently more religious than other diaspora networks ,a large proportion of xalimos would like to marry in their early 20s.
2a. Since these xalimo a would like to marry young they have three options: 1. Decent young Somali fellows(40-50percent of the population 2.young Somali losers( 50-60 percent In my estimates).
Now nobody would want to marry a loser ,so they have to pick someone from the first group.the only problem is that the some from first group of Somalis fellows are delaying marriage until 25-30.social norm dictates men can do that.for the xalimo in a rush to get married , the third option is to marry a pious foreigner or convict turned Abu Terence Al Bilal . The Somalis have the highest rate of inter racial Muslim marriages ,especially Somali to Jamaican .
In a nutshell , some in our community do suffer from a deep-seated culture of self hatred due to trauma,war,media,conditioning and family breakdown. That said , marriage is also about timing and convenience . Of course ,there are also who apparently love each other and live happily ever after. bla bla bla.
