Why are Somalis not mentioned when talking about Islam in Africa ?

I have noticed that when the topic of how Islam arrived in Africa is discussed, the narrator hardly mentions that we were the first muslims to embrace Islam. Never mind that we've been muslim for 14 centuries.

Because we got Islam through the somali traders in nowadays Eritrea, it was not a direct contact. and somalis didn't record anything, the only sources are the remains and oral history
