My names not blatantly Muslim unless you’re educated in Islam. So it means people don’t really know I’m Muslim until they see that I’m Somali. So it’s helped me get job interviews ;).

Or maybe I would have got the interviews regardless but you never know.

This name is common among somali, oromo, amhara, tiger, tigrinya, afar et cetra. It was Also mentioned in king James bible. It looks to me is Jewish/ Christian name in origin.

Even a Moroccan I met had surname Abdi. Who cares waa fugly name in old times it had meaning. Seeing as they were jaahil and their offspring were also their servants(slaves). Now it doesnt.
