what is an ethnic somali?

That would be like 95% of Somalia including many Somali Bantus, lmao! Only Jubba Valley ultra-Jar3rs and a handful of Bajunis probably wouldn't make the cut.

Over 98% Somali on 23andMe, lol, many ethnic Somalis would even fail that standard. I think only 70% of Somalia would get over 98% on 23andMe.
Honestly, all of this shit is just arbitrary. We're just better off adopting a more inclusive identity that doesn't put too much stress on genetic purity.

Sorry but to those giving qashin to this point. I have a question for you.

Name me countries in Africa in which other ethnicities have better integrated historically than Somalia?

Look at South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya etc. their people do not interact let alone intermarry. Whereas in Somalia, like it or not, ethnic minorities never had a problem marrying Somalis in most cases.

This is a genuine question and I want to hear the answers.

Most admixture in the old world happened either in the Neolithic (when agriculture first started) ~8,000-5,000 BCE or in the Bronze Age/early Historic period 3,000 BCE-500 CE.

Since 500 CE most of the old world has been racially the same except for a handful of outlier places like Madagascar.

My point isn't about that.

It was a commentary on how diverse ppl like cad cads, bantus etc have arrived in Somalia and integrated well compared to other minority ethnic groups in Africa.

Most Somalis are not mixed with either, especially not Somalilanders where they never lived.

No, but those populations speak Somali, marry Somalis, adopted Somali customs, while holding onto their traditions.

Can you say that about the Indians of Kenya or the non-blacks of Southern Africa.

Thank you 23andme for doing the heavy lifting.
:mjohreally: Cheers to my fellow 100% Somalis. Head nod of acknowledgment to 99%ers and everyone else disappears.

ur a part of the minorities?

Its not only minorities clans who could get less than 95% on 23andme. Some of us who think we are full ethinic somali might score only 70% somali. On my relative list at least 2 out of 10 somalis get about 80s or just 90s percent somali.

It is very simple. If you’re not part of the major clans then you aren’t ethnically Somali. Ie anyone who is in 0.5 subgroup are not ethnically Somali. A barawan friend took a DNA test and came back with 11% Somali 😂. A Bantu one took it and came back 7% Somali.

I took a DNA test and I came back with 100% Somali. No surprise there as someone who has exclusively HG ancestors. All be it one MX on my great grandmother’s side. This is just an example but as you can see it is not rocket science to know who’s Somali and who isn’t.

I am part of the 5 major clans, there are so many who are part of the 5 major clans and came back with less than 90% somali!

Atm somali identity is rooted in tribal identification, any individual partially descended from somalis wont just be one if they dont have a clan. So even if a oromo who's clan used to be somali but was 400 years ago absorbed by oromo's then if he were to assimilate into somalia he'd still not be considered a somali because of his clan.

I dont think you have to be genetically horn african to be somali, you just need to come from a tribe that has deep roots in the country, there are jar eerweyne (distinct from the gosha confederation of tribes in the jubba whom descend from recently freed slaves) in the shabelle regions whom have lived in somalia for hundreds of years, have their own clan system, are culturally somali and speak immaculate somali.
