If Siad Barre peacefully stepped down, to an another fellow irredentist, I would have not been a refuge, many would not have been killed and we would heal and strenghten ourselves to liberate our regions again. He was good at the start then became we lost the war, the economy went down, he could not fulfill the needs of the people and rebels group where on the rise, he did not want to step down and from there he killed many people and of course the isaaqs suffered the most losses.
Still no leader today surpasses him in the good he did for the Somali people. He was fearsome, he was strong and he was a international player, he did a lot for cultural heritage, the somali language and culture. I don't believe in the rumors that he was tribalistic, he died with no wealth for himself and his family, he truly was tribalistic then his family would be leaving to the west with a lot of cash like the shah of Iran.
1. He unified the country
2. Made fearful and strong, the strongest military in Africa
3. Protected our culture, language and our heritage
4. Fought to liberate our people in Kenya and Ethiopia, if not for those 15k cubans and 1000 elite soviet Generals we would have taken whole of Ethiopia, but Allah is the one who gives victory to whom he wills.
Today
1. We divided with a 4.5 system and autonomous states
2. Internal fights
3. Al shabaab
4- Amisom and Ethiopians everywhere
5. Number 1 most corrupt country
6. Arabs, Kenyans and Ethiopians benefitting from our disunity
7. 5 million Somalis depended on Aid
And the best Leader we have is Farmaajo and n&n with progress, not much but progress. Again I am acknowledginghis faults and also the good he did even though the faults outweight the good, still no leader today can surpass the good he did.
