What this war has demonstrated to the international community (US, UK & EU) is that Somaliland as a state does not have an overwhelming military superiority vis a vis Harti.
If this conflict has demonstrated anything it is that even if Somaliland were to gain recognition, it would be a failed state much like Somalia or Congo that lacks a monopoly on violence within the boundaries it claims.
The US, UK & EU are learning, as this conflict drags on, that a Somaliland based on its Jun 26 1960 borders will never be viable. As a matter of fact, its viability is on a downward trajectory due to gap in population growth.
By the time the departments of State and Defense have submitted their US-Somaliland military cooperation feasibility study in mid June, this war will have been ongoing for 6 months. Red flags everywhere at DOD. Say goodbye to military cooperation.
