"Ugly" is a state of mind: Opinions?

Looks do matter for men to be honest. Everyone has a duty to look after their body not just for themselves but for their partner and children.

Also, good looks usually just means good health. Working out makes you sweat and tones your body and makes your skin glow/even.

Eating good food keeps your body running at optimum levels and also makes your body and hair look healthy.

I would go as far as to say that trying to be healthy/ looking good is Islamic.

The prophet Muhammed SAW looked after himself.
The “looking good” were talking about here like fake lashes and getting your eyebrows done are pretty much haram, if you just meant working out yeah it’s good for you and halal but doesn’t guarantee you look better unless you obese or something

I didn't mention makeup or false lashes/hair?

I am talking about working on what you naturally have.

Trust, if you work out and eat well, you will automatically look much better.

Oh for sure, at first glance some people are more attractive than others but when you interact with people, you may find them less attractive or unintelligent.

Have you ever met a boring beautiful person? I think we all have, that person will pale compared to an interesting/funny regularly attractive person.

The playing field is not even but you can outpace them with the right personality, mentality and effort.
I personally think it’s a myth that ugly/average people are more interesting than pretty ones. I’ve met tons of beautiful men and women who were fun people to talk to, and average to ugly people who were the opposite. I understand what your coming from though, I’ve been put off by men who are rude or abusive even though they had a beautiful outside appearance.

But at the end of the day, a beautiful person will give you beautiful kids. And evolutionarily speaking, that’s what we’re programmed to seek out.

You are who you are, and that's what you need to accept. Yourself.

The feeling you get when you feel like you're ugly, stems from the dissonance between who you perceive yourself as an what you believe that the rest of society expects of you. And those expectations are so varied and high, and even contradicting, that you'll never reach them. No one can make everyone happy and there's no reason to even try.

That's why accepting yourself as who you are is the best thing that you can do. And that includes to accept that your are beautiful the way you are.

Of course there will be settings in which you have to adhere to the norms. I'm expected to wear a suit to work, preferably dark blue. I'm expected to shave or have a proper beard. I'm expected to act and behave in accordance with the values and the image of my employer. And that's fine. It's not really hard when you learn the rules.

You can treat the rest of the world the same way. Your grandmother has some expectations for you. And your family, your friends, even strangers. You can choose who you want to make an effort to please, and usually you'll naturally behave differently around your 80 year old grandmother and your friends. That's normal.

But remember that you are you. And you should stay true to yourself. That's not to say that you can't follow trends or norms, but don't do things you don't want to do.

Your beauty and value doesn't come from how others perceive you. It comes from your inate value as a human being. Embrace yourself as who you are, because you deserve it.

Alx my parents invested in braces for me at a young age, blessed me with good skin, and a tall slim stature . And my father made me lift weights everyday from age 11. Unfortunately I’m noticing hair loss and I will probably be bald in the next 2-3 years :wow:.

Spot on.

Inner beauty/work is the number one most important thing you can do for yourself. However, for many people it helps to work outside in also. Once they look good, they start valuing themselves and it shows/radiates from them and makes their lives a bit better.

I agree, dressing to impress yourself should be the main motivator as it radiates a certain magnetic effect among people
