They identified the rock and started moving it to Mogadishubefore the Somalia government intervened.[1]

The best thing would be to store it in a place and lock it away for years. It's presumably the only space metal of its kind. Rarity itself drives up value, with research, given time, finds useful utility, you're sitting with strong bargaining power as demand will increase tremendously. Whatever the bidders paid was not even a fraction, of a fraction, of its real potential worth. It's similar to how stolen archeological items are sold in the black market.

They mentioned some miners hunting for opal in 2019 in the region the meteorite was found. This movie from the same year had a plot about opal from Ethiopia:
Was the search for the gemstone prompted by a fucking movie? The whole thing is strange.
