I think this was his endgame. The invasion in Syria was to neutralise Russia in his upcoming battle for the Mediterranean. What a cunning bastard.

Going to have to disagree.

If Somalia were to request Turkish troops the already strained relations between Somalia and the UAE-KSA bloc would deteriorate; it would displease the already disgruntled UAE-KSA bloc.

Oh and if Turkish troops were to be deployed to Somalia it would be great news for Somaliland lol.

Both Turkey and Somalia are well aware of implications of if troops are deployed.

Also their presence is insignificant in puntland. I don't know about JL and SL but I assume it's the same as PL.

The only entity to be held accountable for that is the leadership of the fgs.

I have seen the turks in Somaliland with my own two eyes, if the political scene stabilizes they will support Puntland more than they do now.

The turks main goal is to revive the somali nation. This goes through xamar since it is our capital and our second capital however a bit lesser support for the latter.

If we where united we would have enjoyed the turkish fruits toghether. Sadly we are not united just yet. Maybe in the close future we will see more of an united front.

I am glad to see that someone else on sspot can think a bit further that the usual.

And you can't even compare Libya to Somalia - geographically.

@Abdalla you're a sneaky bastard :chrisfreshhah: your motive was to rile up the Somalians :russ:

The Libyan government requested military support from Turkey, I don't think the Somali government did the same. What @Farm said also makes sense, there's no reliable ground force to work with in Somalia, the SNA is inept and corrupt to the core.

You have to also take into consideration the presence of AMISOM troops in Somalia, does turkey want to confront them? There's American bases in Somalia too, can Turkey trust them? In terms of drone activity, both countries are the same, so it'll be interesting to see if US drones do anything about Turkey in Libya.

Then you have to look at the economic benefit Turkey will get from Libya, the potential for short-term and long-term gain is there. Can you say the same about Somalia? You could say Turkey can gain in the long-run, but definitely not in the short-run. That doesn't benefit Erdogan, he needs to show the Turkish public quick economic gains or else him and his party will be kicked out.

Nevertheless, it would have been interesting to see what Turkey would say if the Somali government did ask them for military assistance.

It seems some people don’t understand that no country “helps” another country without gaining something. Turkey couldn’t care less about Somalia, it’s only looking to exploit the 68 IQ nation, failmaajo recently gave them access to the entire Somalia coastline in a so called trade deal (keep in mind Somalia has no real economy), Turkey isn’t much different from any of the other countries that operate in Somalia.

Libya has arms embargo, yet that doesn't deter Turkey to send troops. This shows you that Turkey doesn't have any faith in Somalia nor takes it seriously. Sending troops triumphs anything they've been doing since 2011in Xamar.

Farmaajo didn't ask for troops to set foot on somali soil and if he did he'd be considered weak by other clans that don't want ajnabis on our land or perhaps he will be scapegated as the man who sold somalia to turkey. The difference is the UN imposed foreign troops on us, no somali leader can ever bring in foreign troops without being seen as a weak leader. I guarantee you the opposition would use this to topple the government and cause another civil war, because the old greedy assholes that want us to regress don't want their gravy train to end.

Libya don't mind since they were wild animals that destroyed their own country and deposed their best leader.

Turkish airline’s Somalia route is one of its most profitable. Turkey also more than quadrupled it’s exports to Somalia etc...

They have no presence, we have Turkish companies though just like Chinese. They are mostly confined to Mogadishu, even seen meeting the elders of Abgaal and HG clans

How would he be seen as a traitor? they would be stationed in the south where people already support them

Turkey will not step one foot in Somalia. If they done that the maamul beeleeds will be armed to the teeth by uae axis. The implications of that is well known. Also the Americans and the Ethiopians already got burnt in Somalia Turks would never take that risk.

At the same time Turkey has thrown a spanner into the works of efforts by Cyprus, Greece, Israel and Egypt to develop East Mediterranean gas, putting a barrier across a proposed pipeline that would run from Israeli and Greek-Cypriot waters to the Greek island of Crete, on to the Greek mainland and into Europe's gas network via Italy. The $7-9 billion pipeline would have to cross the planned Turkey-Libya economic zone.

Turkish company also got contracted for the garacad port and a turkish owned 5 star hotel recently opened in Mogadishu. They seem to be making return on their 2011 pr campaign.
