This is exactly the description of Mogadishu flag and it is from 1919!

Everything is built upon something nobody can refute that.

The history, background, meaning and symbolism of what you're comparing however is unrelated. Those are what fundamentally makes a flag or crest or emblem. Just because something vaguely looks alike doesn't make it the same, and to suggest so is ignorant and wrong in every sense of the word.

As Karim said, the people who lived around that time would've spotted the similarities and reject it immediately. Few flags were rejected because it resembled the gaalo's flag. The anti gaal sentiment was very high at that time. Besides how would you declare, if he blindly copied others, that the five pointed star coincidentally represents shanta somaliyeed, an ideology that runs deep for the people around that time.

It is parted per fess Azure and Gules, a fess wavy Argent, in chief a panther (Panthera pardus - Felidæ) passant guardant proper, above his head a five-pointed star Argent, and in base two six-pointed stars Argent. On the shield is an antique crown of nine points.

Italian coat of arms description decree from April 1919.

Abdalla the flag of Mogadishu has red and blue with the Mogadishu tower with four rays coming out of the window. So much for rejecting colonial symbols.

Flag of Mogadishu 1919 decree of coat of arms.

In 1919 Somalia wasn't free, you're proving my point. That flag was also nominated as our national flag, but it was overwhelmingly rejected

Abdalla that is my argument the Mogadishu flag (for Mogadishu) as the name says not intended for Somalia is still in use!

Now say sonething.

So in April 1919 two decrees came out. One coat if arm adopted for Somalia which has resemblance to the coat of arms of Somalia of today and flag and another decree for the coat of arms of Mogadishu which is still in use!

@Saahid Qamaan

A symbol is a physical thing that represents an abstract thing.
For any two symbols to be alike they have to represent the same meaning.

I repeat myself, two things can look similar but that doesn't make them the same thing. What you're comparing couldn't be more different as symbols. Somalias flag represents a greater vision and couldn't be more perfect as a flag due to its symbolism and history. That's why it has been regarded as one of the better national flags by professional vexillologists (flag nerds)

Abdalla the 1919 decree for the coat of arms of Mogadishu says:

(I.e.: Gules, the ancient tower (of Mogadishu) proper, standing in a sea Argent, with rays Argent coming from the four windows in the upper part of the tower.

This is Mogadishu's flag of today. Read the decree than look at the coat of arms of Mogadishu Gobolka Banaadir
