Why would it be a hoax? Cheetahs have always been present in Somalia, although right now their numbers are low. Not just in Somalia, but worldwide.

Those are private animals in someone's backyard. I have seen big cats there but they bought those animals from someone in another country.

It was not the whole north but wetter areas betweeen Hargeisa and Borama, the British actually killed them for their ivory on hunting trips. Also the Somalis living there adopted agriculture and cut down the bush where the elephants lived. The closest they are now is in the Babile elephant sanctuary in Oromia, west of jigjiga.

I am working with the government and several NGOs to see if a sanctuary can be opened in Somaliland. Unfortunately it is very expensive to maintain so we need to find funding.
