Yes, Geledi was an extension of Ajuuraan. She wrote the most about the Geledi Sultanate. Her book is a good place to start. You can venture out further once you’re finished reading.

Fair enough. I just despise Saancadaale colonialists and their scribbles being passed off as academic research, and an authority on such matters, when there are better reference material by Somalis and Muslims.

  • ICUs were three-pronged enterprise of conflicting ideologies, with each seeking domination of the other, which eventually saw to their downfall, as became evident in Sudan to be more precise, well before the Ethiopians. Their Ayatullahs from Burco, Garowe and Jeddah, who congregated in Xamar during the time attested to as much. So did M Caddow, who documented as much prior to his killing by his comrades. Give credit where it's due. I detest Siad Barre and hate his guts but he managed to hijack the coup, execute all his partners in crime, outmanoeuvre & jail the entire political class of the civilian government and install his own personality cult which was going well till Ogaden war. You might argue there was no political rival to him but the quickness and cutthroat way he asserted his control over the government requires high level of intelligence and personal awareness. He's the same guy who was laughed at the beginning of the coup and told "Ma adigu Afweyne ah ayaad rabta inad meesha Xukuntid" He was agreed upon because everyone else thought he's a stupid simpleton that could be controlled but made the biggest comeback in Somali history.

The problem in modern Somalia is that even if such dacaad person comes other clans will never surrender their autonomy to him. This new Ahmed Gury MUST use force to subjugate the rest of Somalia. If you haven't noticed, the military rule of Siad Barre created a culture of deeply rooted mistrust in the government by Somalis. We finally understood the power of state institutions and will never willy give it away so easily like 1960. That's why Somaliweyn is dead. Tribal pride, mistrust and cynical attitude to Somali Governments will remain for the foreseeable future. Especially with meddling of foreign powers preventing a single group from dominating the whole country.

No mate, everything the SSRC politburo had done from the murder of Kamal al Din to the execution of Dhel, Caynaanshe, and Gabayre to the 11 Sheekhs in 1975 to the 1977 S Galbeed war to the culling of Sr military officers post the war in 1978, and events afterwards had been drafted for them to implement, with none of it being of their invention nor innovation.

I read somewhere the assassination was sponsored by Russian intelligence and Barre played his role, he however dominated the state rather quickly. He discard Soviets warnings of not invading Ethiopia that tells you he had an independent mind and foreign policy forget about interior affairs. The Soviets knew about his tribalism and injustice yet couldn't force him to turn into full mode commie secular.

πŸ™ You’re not wrong. Trust is key into uniting all factions and only a just ruler can make that happen. I personally don’t believe in xoog because it will lead us into another major civil war. A ruler that can win over the hearts of the people not just through his words but through his actions is what we need. I’m sure if the people from Seylac to Ras Kiyambooni are treated equally and just by the FGS as well as getting the necessary fundings to build their regions independently then without a shadow of doubt they will slowly but surely surrender themselves to FGS.
