okay let me explain because the history of the horn is very difficult and long. This picture below is greater Somalia.

When Somalia gained it’s independence in 1960. All its Territories were supposed to come together but the colonizers and their allies didn’t let the Somalis do that. Instead they gave the Somali region aka Ogandina to Ethiopia. NFD to Kenya and Djibouti became a country due to France. This is how greater Somalia is divided. Look below

In 1977 somalia declared war on Ethiopia. Taking back it’s Territory and even marching to their captial but the Soviet Union sent advisors/air support and 7 billion dollar of military eid and they also sent 15–40k troops from the communist allies. So Somalia basically fought the communist world and Ethiopia. Somalia had to retreat back to the current borders. After the civil war Kenya and Ethiopia decided that Somalia shall never have a strong government. In 2006 Ethiopia invaded Muqdishu, the captial of Somalia and more then 20k troops were slaughtered by the locals but that came at heavy price. Many civilians died but things have recently changed. Abiye the current prime minister broke the agreement between Kenya and Ethiopia. He created alliance with Somalia and Eritrea regarding the future of Somalia. Somalia president didn’t really trust him but abiye pleaded with Somalia and acknowledged the wrong doing.Anyways after long talks, Ethiopia withdrew from intervening Somalia politics and decided to support the central government.
now that Somalia is rebuilding, they still have trouble with countries intervening in their internal affairs. The biggest obstacle was Ethiopia but now Ethiopia Somalia are allies. Kenya has become the biggest obstacle, the government tried diplomatic ties. Over 3 times Kenya has broken agreement between the two government. They are supporting a warlord and his milita to take a certain region of Somalia. There is also the ICJ case Regarding the maritime dispute and they know they will lose. So they want use this as a chip so the National army was brought to the region to fight just in case of Kenya and their warlord started to attack.
There is a lot Of information missing in between but this general summarization of the horn. These countries are basically terrified that a strong Somalia will once again fight for their Territories in those country. people might ask, why don’t do they a referendum. They did for NFD and more 88% voted to go back to Somalia. The u.s also promised to do a referendum in Somali region in Ethiopia but never delivered that promise. Anyways the current Somalis just want build a proper government. The aspiration for greater Somalia is low right now
the country also has huge potential so unless it’s under one of theses two countries. Both countries and their allies know Somalia will one day contest for their lands and This time they will have the money and allies to back them.

Somalia lost a significant amount of land during colonization. In the late 19th century, European powers divided Africa into colonies, and Somalia was colonized by Britain, Italy, and France. The British and Italians took control of most of Somalia, while the French took control of Djibouti, which was historically part of Somalia. During this time, Somalis lost control of their land and resources, and their traditional way of life was disrupted. In addition to colonization, Somalia has also experienced conflicts and territorial disputes with neighboring countries, such as Ethiopia and Kenya. These disputes have resulted in further loss of land and displacement of Somalis.
