Simply put I left because of a combination of incompatibility, questionable ethics, and the fact that I didn't want to live a lie anymore. I can still appreciate Islam as it helped shaped me today and helped me when I was suffering hard times. I am, of course, a product of my environment in some ways, but my decision was not influenced by anyone but myself.

The natural human predisposition is to believe in God, hence terms like there is no atheist on a ship that's about to sink nor a plane that is about to crash.
