Guy

I'm an atheist, is it by choice or by design. At 16, I chose to quit Islam and become a free-agent aka atheist, but Allah disagrees with me and in the Koran says;

"Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. ....” al-Kahf 18:29

As you can see from the above ayat, Allah strongly and poignantly declares that he "guides whom he desires and sends astray those he wills". He doesn't stop there, but according to the Sunni Doctrine (Ummayads hadiths), Allah warns Mohamed who was desperately attempting to "rescue" his beloved uncle Abu Talib (The Shia dismiss it because they consider him a Muslim and their first Imam) by asking him to pronounce the Shahadah and die as a Muslim. Abu Talib refused and died as a non-Muslim. Allah told Mohamed;

"
“Verily, you (O Muhammad) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided.”

[al-Qasas 28:56]

If Allah says, he misguided us, what is all the fuss about? Why can't we just be the "misguided" people and Mussies leave us alone?

Khalad baa ka fahantay.

This is tied to Qadr (predestination). You have abandoned the faith of your own free will. These Ayat are a reminder from Allah that only he can ultimately guide the individual - and the fate of the Prophet's (saw) uncle is a good demonstration of that.

The posters here are puzzled by this 'Somali Atheist' paradox since religion is wedded to our history, identity, and culture. Don't be alarmed by their curiosity.

Nonsense! If Islam is true then there's no such thing is free will. Everything is Allah's will. Before Allah created us, he knew who was going to be gaal or who was going to be a believer. Allah had the power to create only believers. But he chose to create those He knew would be gaalo. Ergo, there's no free will if Islam is true.

The "free will" that you claim exists in Islam is same type of free will that a student has before writing an exam even though the teacher has already pre-assigned grades to each student. It doesn't matter what the student scores on the exam, the teacher already assigned a grade to him/her.

May Allah show us the path to gaalnimo!

Rorschach

With due respect to this thread, let me say that the concepts of free will and predestination are confusing, contradictory and oxymoronic. Let us leave it there.

Why is there such a high number of atheist on this site, considering they where raised in a Islamic Somali family, how can their numbers be so high among us?
Has it something to do with the backlash on muslims these recent years ? Or personal issues like, Family issues ? Feelings of shame or inadequence?
It seems a lot of them also are very disrespectful to islam and live to bash islam.
I find this worrying and a potential threat to the Somali community and culture.

* let's start it civil
There are more atheists on here because atheism is rampant in the Somali population in general, and especially in the west. It's an accurate reflection of reality. The "believer" category includes people who attend the occasional Friday prayer and pretend to fast in Ramadan.

Dude, you have Al Shabaab. You comprise roughly 0% of the world's population and some local yokel in Thailand thinks of Al Qaeda when Somalia is brought up. Look at where things stand. You are worried about the WRONG concern. Things cannot get worse than they are for you.
