The Glorification of Cadaans

I have never heard any Somali commenting on another Somalis hair type negatively. I’ll give you the skin colour thing because bleaching is an issue but thankfully people are now starting to realize the long term damage it can cause.
Bleaching is declining, many young women have seen the dangers and side effects of it.

I wouldn’t even say we have ”Colorism”, colorism is a system that favours lighter skin over darker skin on a structural level. As in ppl will not hire u or discriminate against u in the jobmarket, education, legalsystem etc. for being of a certain complexion lol, at most what we have is that people (mainly fobs) perceive a lighter person as more beautiful and thats due to media (that imported bollywood qashin) and marketing for bleach products

All of this can be reversed.
Exactly, we have it good compared to other communities, with better education and awareness we can get rid of this obsession with lighter skin.

you can do what you want with your own hair that grows from your scalp. Its absolutely not comparable to commenting under some indian chick's tiktok "take care of my bundles sis "

Go tell your own people to learn to love themselves, we're nowhere near as bad as ya'll

U sound like my people 😂 🤣
That's the argument they use.

Stop deflecting.
It destroys your argument.
Weaves - wigs & straightening products/methods are subconscious manifestations of self hate

Buckdancing for bundles is no different than using harmful products that change the state of ur hair.

U act like non Somali black girls don't use hair straightening products

It's an even bigger issue among us than weaves ever were.

If it happens among 60+ percent of the population (straightening) it's an epidemic!
The question u should be asking is why do people feel the need to correct (straightening) what doesn't need to be corrected? Does Allah (swt) make mistakes?

It may not apply to u but it's obviously an issue that shouldn't be shunned or brushed aside.
The topic is the glorification of cadaans.
How u feel about yourself ties into that.

there's a difference between straightening your OWN hair and straight up wearing other people's. Creepy asf. I don't know how you people do it.

I regret to inform you that I have Somali cousins who I can confirm have worn those sorts of wigs. She told me it was some Cambodian or Colombian's hair. Acudhubillah.

Skin bleaching is rampant in urban areas. It's gotten so bad that they now look like actual whites. Two of my underage cousins are whiter than the average white person. You see women so white that you even doubt if they are Somali.
The bleaching has also sadly reached the baadiyo.

It's not about pride or lack thereof - it's about standards - monkey see, monkey do.
I was just there. No it’s not a rampant issue in the South. But yeah, it’s definitely is in the North tho.

This quote does not apply to Somalis today. You might not be as bad as the East Asians or Caribbeans yet but you’re getting there

Hardcore incels online ≠ real life. You’re either:

A. Super autistic
B. Chronically online with zero real Somali guy friends growing up.
C. Both
That's probably skewed statistically by rural cadaans. Living among the urban ones now and I don't get that sense, wallahi. You'd be surprised how many of them marry out. Even did a little Data Analytics foray of my kwn with my dating app matches and likes in a major city like Boston and statistically found that I was matching with them and East Asians pretty much exactly in proportion with the general population meaning they had zero actual bias toward me as a "black" dude.
The data doesn’t back your claim. Even super liberal cadaana have the lowest interracial marriage rates in the US. Especially the women.
U sound like my people 😂 🤣

80% of women worldwide (including Euros) straighten, curl, and/or occasionally wear hair extensions. It’s perfectly OK for non-SSA women, but somehow it’s an issue when African women do it? Wearing full wigs or bleaching is a different convo, but I don’t see a problem with the former.

As I said earlier, thanks to globalization, beauty standards are converging for both genders. For women, lighter skin, long hair, and golden-ratio facial features are/will generally considered the global beauty ideal. Of course, how light and what hair texture is preferred varies by region.

This woman will be seen as top-tier in the Horn. However, she will be seen as “too dark” or “too Black” in neighboring Middle East, with her hair getting called “too kinky.”

No point of screaming or crying about the Evil cadaan people or harass other people to change their beauty standards. Especially if you’re not even from the that group. Doing so just makes you look insecure as f and won’t solve the “issue.”

Funniest part is when i hear "David" or "John" did something or took something only to find out the guy they were talking about had came from Vietnam. Am like, holy crap, couldn't you find a simple name from your culture dude?
