That would cause a civil war in SSC and Puntland would join in. And after the progress since the original civil war, that would be a pretty stupid move. Also if SL tried to get recognition by force it would unite clans that were formerly enemies, against you. Not a smart thing to do.
Pretty sure that would be last resort type of thing but just saying that option is still there. You make it seem as if it's impossible for Somaliland to get recognition.

While in reality it's very possible.

nothing is impossible, but the likely hood it happeneing in 2010 with no federal government was much greater than it is now. And its going to keep getting less likely as Somalia improves and as Puntland makes SL's control of Sanaag very ambiguous and as long as cayn and buuhoodle is free.

The likely hood of recognition anytime soon is so low that it might as well be calling it impossible.

I completely disagree, as the current government is very limited in the sense of what they could possibly do to Somaliland same as the one before it. You make it more dim than it actually is.:ulyin:

I'm being realistic.

I remember in 2010 after the elections SL were pushing really really hard for international recognition, there was no federal government at this time and it was there best opportunity to get recognised. It didn't pay off. And now all you hear from international community regarding the matter is for reconciliation like Boris Johnson said and many others. Also non Isaaq clans like Samaaroon don't want to secede from Somalia. Usually when new countries get recognition they're first recognised by smaller sovereign states before they're recognised by the EU or AU or US and this hasn't happened either.

Not really, as the international community reasoning as to why Somaliland shouldn't get recognition yet was that they should wait until Somalia is more stable because recognition might make the situation in the region escalate. Reconciliation talks haven't even started yet because Somalia is still in an uphill battle.

Also the legal claim on the land of Sool and Sanaag outweighs some villages objection and unwillingness to join Somaliland.

I'm saying legal claim comes after the problem of SLs recognised border is solved, borders cannot be agreed upon and granted by IC as it is now, due to the situation on the ground. They're not just gonna reconise the british protectorate willy nilly without understanding clan politics in SSC. Eritrea got recognised after they secured their regions from ethiopia not before it.

Yes that is true but I don't agree with your previous statements.

Most of these villages are backed up by clans. The only reason people are stating somaliland is to gain legitimatecy for a tribal government.

Let's be honest here if somaliland gets Independence there will be widespread Declaration of Independence within somaliland. The Clans to the east will be marginalised politically either way with the same happening in the west. This will lead to eventual insurgency.

On what basis are they declaring independence, Somaliland's history is a big reason as to why they want to secede. Somaliland was also internationally recognized once.

Being a member of a different clan is not enough, we did not make those borders but we are sticking by them and they belong to Somaliland because that is something the international community can never deny us, they were the ones who drew the map they'll have to stand by it.

"Somaliland" was never part of the UN members and thus never a country. The British "protecterate" where clans inside them used to fight each other borders changed constantly. One instance is when Britain invaded the neighbouring Italy colonies and saw both parts as one colony. However it was quickly changed to a trusteeehip.

Furthermore don't try to sugar coat this. This is one clans way to power. For secession to be declared a majority of somaliland must agree with this, which obviously won't happen.

Finally , clans are the bedrock of the Somali community if somaliland wants to secede why can't the warsengali on its previous sultunates borders? Or the other clans?

You don't seem to know the history of Somaliland that well and I doubt I could even have a discussion with you about it. You say "Somaliland" was never part of the UN members and thus never a country".. Really? They might not have been a member but that was because it was for 5 days. Also you make it seem as though it's a prerequisite to be a member of the UN to be a country. You join the UN after statehood and there are cases where some countries don't even join the UN after statehood like Taiwan and Kosovo.

On 26 June 1960, Somaliland became an independent, sovereign state, known as the State of Somaliland. As in all the countries which were decolonised in 1960, the State of Somaliland immediately received congratulatory telegrams from 35 countries, including all five permanent members of the UN Security Council welcoming its sovereignty.

Did the warsangeli or other clans get recognized by all five permanent members of the UN? I'm not sugarcoating it, it is just that you can't handle the truth. You all make it seem as though Somaliland doesn't exist while in reality you know it does. Do your research before commenting like that.

Somaliland was never a full country search it up. It was also given Independence in the dinstict term that it would rejoin The trustee colony to the east and south of it. Just search it up.

Warsengali and other clans didn't gain sovereignty because they were forced to be in a British owned state.for a state to secede it should democratically secede such as Kurdistan etc.

Somaliland gave up its independence and full sovereignty willingly, to get it back it must be done democratically and even then it's unlikely. You also seem to insinuate somaliland is a single entity when we all know that's not the truth and far from it.

This lie really needs to stop being circulated. Somaliland was the first independent Somali state in modern history and willingly chose to join Italian Somaliland in an equal union to form the Somali Republic. The Republic has disintegrated - the south and North no longer form a country. It's that simple.

Union failed in 1969 when the democracy fell.regardless this so called "union" really meant nothing. The Somali people would regularly be in both the Italian colony and the British protectorate.

Regardless Somaliland primarily won't secede because only one tribe wants to secede to have a monopoly on somaliland, the 40% non isaaaqs hardly want to secede as they see it as a clan state.

We have already seceded, there is only the issue of sovereignty. Somalia can't really do much about Somaliland either way.

Sorry son but Isaaq make up 80% of somaliland and will continue to make the decisions. Your people are part of it like it or not.

What do you mean "we" . Somaliland has taken ar as by force and is willling to harm people for their goals.

The ultimate goal of somaliland is to maintain a monopoly of the whole area. The way they have went to achieve that is both surprising and interesting. They have implemented a method of pure propaganda , they even have a budget for that. They make sure to make themselves seem as different from Somalia when they are basically the same. Corruption is rife and the populace ,especially of the majority clan, are foolish.

The belief that they would be able to secede is engrained in all there minds however Propaganda is limited and time has run out for the governors.

Finally not one country has recognised Somaliland.
If somaliland can do a Legitimate open referendum on all states then I might change my mind on it, however currently they are simply taking things by force to fulfill their greed.

Somaliland's approach wont change because you don't like it. Greed or not, it is what it is. If we can't get it peacefully you bet we will take it by force.

Somalia is not even in a position to ask questions or make demands, maybe in 20 years.
