My position is more nuanced, Somalis are Somali, we have both feet in SSA (phenotype wise we're mostly dark skinned black) and the MENA (Cultural and religious compatibility/slight mixing with a West Asian population subset way back).

However, I don’t believe our phenotype is strictly SSA as apart from skincolor and some Somalis who show a lot more SSA physical traits as they look more Nilotic than others, but we do have a different look which is why some Somalis try to run away from the black label. Also, other madows especially in the UK argue the same thing. But apart from that, you’re right we’re mixed people and someone claiming black when literally half or more than half Is SSA shouldn’t be an issue although I’m Somali first and identify with that.

The modern Nilotic person is literally 80% Proto-Nilotic, hence we could argue that is how they probably looked. 20% isn’t going to make a drastic difference.

We’re an old race but still hybrid. We share ties with Nilotic people and people from the ME particularly Yemenis and Saudis as they have high levels of Natufian DNA at like 70%.

Also, people that are fully SSA aren’t hybrid. We are.

When I am in Africa, I don't mind the black label but in the west, there's so much baggage that comes with this. Most cadaans and non blacks immediately think of crime, drugs, gangs and general degeneracy when they think of Black people and this is obviously wrong, but I don't wanna be associated with that.
