So answer, what makes the guys on top black but not Denni? The guy on top looks more non SSA than at least a good % of Somalis.

You don’t have an answer. Somalis 60% SSA DNA is dominant and many Somalis do indeed look black. No one would mistake them for any other population but SSA. It’s embarrassing for you to think otherwise.

I thought we had a unique DNA, so does this mean we're a hybrid race? And how did they measure our DNA or genetics to get the conclusion? Are there any scientific articles or research behind this conclusion?

When I am in Africa, I don't mind the black label but in the west, there's so much baggage that comes with this. Most cadaans and non blacks immediately think of crime, drugs, gangs and general degeneracy when they think of Black people and this is obviously wrong, but I don't wanna be associated with that. Not to mention in the west, black is a convenient identity for people who don't know where they came from and I know where I came from, and where my grand father and his grand father came from. The same way white folks in America go by being white but in Europe, every cadaan goes by their respective ethnic group(Italian, German, Spanish, Irish, Russian) etc...

Yeah, go to the history section of this forum. They have all the articles and in-depth analysis and conversation around it. I learned a lot. A few posters, go into great detail. Really smart MashaAllah.

But yes, we’re an ancient mix. Proto Nilotic (Basically the fathers of South Sudanese people) mixed with Ancient Natufian from the Levant (High levels of Natufian blood is also found amongst the Arabs. Yemenis in particular can have like 70%. So Natufian people probably had that look.

I think it's because Somalis (like all ancient admixed populations) have always known they were their own thing (alongside related Horn Africans), and this self-recognition was not contingent on Western definitions or conceptualisations of race...

.. Based on what I've read, it's clear that Somalis have historically never seen themselves as the same as full SSA populations, and full SSA populations also don't really regard Somalis as part of their group. Even usually clueless Cadaans can see the difference...

..Also, black has been associated with slavery, persecution, prejudice and ridicule for centuries, so it makes all the sense in the world to distance one's collective self from that.

Which is confusing, right? Cause all human groups have been enslaved, every single one of them, Somalis are unique in that they resisted to the end.

@Angelina Somali DNA lies closer to SSA than to MENA populations, but we can't discount that influence either, we're mixed, period.

My position is more nuanced, Somalis are Somali, we have both feet in SSA (phenotype wise we're mostly dark skinned black) and the MENA (Cultural and religious compatibility/slight mixing with a West Asian population subset way back).

If one Somali claims black, I won't bite their head off, but Arab? That's asinine, Islam =/= Arab, which is where these Ana Arab types always lose me, ethnicity is an absolute non-factor when it comes to our dheen.
