First years of marriage when kids are not in the picture then yes will work.

When kids are in the picture would prefer to be a housewife until they are older. I would want to work from home though, the idea of not having any money of my own would be hard as i'm used to working and having money.

With regards to splitting, it all depends on whether my husband needs help with the bills. I've noticed most men that are financially well off don't ask their wives to help them with the bill.

I'd probably save up the money for future things like kids schooling and family holidays ect.
