Legally changing it is not the same as Somali parents naming you that. You are shifting goalposts. How would you know his parents are fine with it?

Because I know. I also know they're OK with his Polish-Canadian wife but not OK with the sibling that married a Haitian-Canadian. This aligns with Somalis usually having no problem if their grandkids are half cadaan but going apeshit if its a different kind of "madow".

I don’t want to ruin this positive thread and all but Somalis don’t really have Somali (Cushtic names) our names has been Arabnised. We have Arab names. I don’t have problem with this at all though. Since it’s just a name. But taking pride in Somalis for not changing their name to appeal to the west while having an Arab name is quite ironic.

the issue with most subsaharan christians is that the vast majority of them became christian through western colonialism (with the exception of cushitic peoples). so they dont have their own black-ified christian names like the arabs have arabicized christian names. jarjis in arabic is english george and boutros in arabic is english peter. and the cushites have different christian names. its kinda weird seeing a bantu dude named george instead of georgitumbo. its like their beliefs in christianity didnt undergo the usual localization processes like it did with cushites and arabs. the arabs have an arabic bible and the cushites have a ge'ez bible.
