Somalis are one of the few ethnicities that don’t change their names in the West

Somalis mostly have Ayrab names and their abtirsi too (which claim random Ayrab forefathers). That's not self respect.

I don’t want to ruin this positive thread and all but Somalis don’t really have Somali (Cushtic names) our names has been Arabnised. We have Arab names. I don’t have problem with this at all though. Since it’s just a name. But taking pride in Somalis for not changing their name to appeal to the west while having an Arab name is quite ironic.


But then again names is names. So who cares.

They are islamic names not Arab names. A fine line to tread and nowadays i would agree more arabisation is going on like calling your child fiil because itsin the quraan. But naming your child ibrahim or mahamed is not arabising them
