I can't talk much for Minneapolis, although I've been there twice. I live in Toronto and have been to London. I've never seen this happen. I think these types of situations are pretty rare. Most Somali restaurants are probably staffed with other Somalis.

it isn’t our traditional dress, those that claim it don’t really know better because of what they’re taught. The Borana who neighbor Somalis adopted it and have been using the dress. They don’t claim it as their culture, rather a beautiful unique attire they’d fell in love with and use. Majority won’t claim it, we have our own unique culture.
Also same thing with the Dirac and Baati. Especially with Hararge Oromos who intermix and trade with Somalis.
