Sometimes I remind myself not to rely too much on equating the overall human condition to a strict materialistic reductionist way, even if it's a relevant game in town, the primary approach examining it. One cannot infer value from it, thus mainly a tool for fragmentary comprehensive examination, worldly knowledge can reduce wisdom in this way if that's the only stream of knowledge one is to focus on.I once read something that really resonated with me... along the lines of "our bodies are just vehicles & shelter for our genetic material to pass on". Our intelligence evolved as an adaptation to a hostile environment. No doubt it's been highly beneficial to our species; still it's crazy to think our sense of self has been maladaptive, actually decreasing fitness in some aspects as you mentioned.
