Puntland is de facto independent of Somalia. The FGS has no presence anywhere in Puntland.
Puntland is a semi autonomous state let’s not try fool anybody here. While Somalia doesn’t directly control Puntland it does still own it.

Somaliland who are a self declared state who’s independent from Somalia, who don’t even border Somalia is still seen as part of Somalia by the West.

My point is Somaliland who have more claim to recognition than you are still seen as Somalia. While everyone outside Puntland sees you as just a federal state of Somalia

they should have full political and economic autonomy so they can develop in peace...it's not fair for the war torn parts of somalia to hold other back, but there is no use in seeking to be seceded, and its a waste of precious time. I think certain things like pl's coast and minerals should have nothing to do with somali government.

people are too focused on puntland, somaliland but meanwhile a large chunk of somalia has no rule, and is law or the jungle, why don't you ever hear of the federal government in somalia focus on those areas? somalia is not just puntland and xamar

There is a difference between de jure and de facto independence. You must be fairly stupid to disagree with my statement of a fact.

How dare you say I’m a Puntlandtite I take that as an insult. When I mean semi autonomous i mean like administrative status like Hong Kong esque.

Puntland is currently still just a regular normal federal state in Somalia.

If he was habashi he'd be posting similar to some of yall doom and gloom/"Somalia is over" posters. But all he posts is positivity, love and unity for Somali people. No way he's Ethiopian

If he’s habashi dammit maybe we do need to go under Ethiopia :ftw9nwa:

because there is no functioning government..? Is somalia not propped up by foreign intervention? as soon as somalia has control of the southern territories with no need for foreigners then yes! but I don't see why a capital that needs african soldiers walking around for security can control other states resources especially when they have a history of selling things for pennies

Somaliland is doing a lot better than the South also so what’s your point? Everyone knows the South is bad but it’s getting better

Good luck trying to get independence from Somalia let alone getting International recognition :damn: :russ:
Guy is proudly from self declared state with no international recognition, but pokes fun at the odds of PL getting international recognition.

I am a Puntlander myself and I can't say I am sold on PIM being the best decision for our people. However it was a HAG nigga who asked the question.

TBH we should have genuine reconciliation and peace talks, and root out the corrupt politicians in office rn. The ppl back home cannot expect diaspora politicians to have their best interests at heart.

The country may as well be a casino for some of these guys. We can do a lot better, and things will be a lot better. Inshallah.

Don't embarrass yourself please.. You say Puntland is de facto because Somaliland is referred as de facto independent. Wallahi brother have some dignity :mjlol:

DE FACTO is used to characterize an officer, a government, a past action, or a state of affairs that must be accepted for all practical purposes, but is illegal or illegitimate. Thus, an office, position, or status existing under a claim or color of right, such as a de facto corporation. In this sense it is the contrary of de jure, which means rightful, legitimate, just, or constitutional.

Source: https://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/De+facto+independence

Since when did Puntland become any of that? Puntland is not illegitimate or illegal it's a legitimate federal state of the de jure Somalia.

Just because Somaliland is referred as de facto, don't automatically think you can apply it to Puntland. You thought it meant something good :dead:

@Lordilord Puntland is de jure a federal state subordinate to Mogadishu, but in reality it is a de facto nation state. The president of Puntland can do whatever he wants within Puntland’s borders, that is what de facto independence means. Kurdistan is de jure subordinate to Baghdad but it is de facto independent of the central government.

Puntland functions like a nation state in fact, although it does not claim to be one in law. Puntland became a de facto state when the central government collapsed, not because it declared its independence.

You should be grateful to me for giving you this understanding.

It's not de facto LOL, it is simply autonomous :snoop: did you not read the definition, none of it applies to Puntland.. :ummhmm:

Kurdistan is de jure subordinate to Baghdad but it is de facto independent of the central government.

De jure subordinate? Lol are we making things up now.. De facto is basically the opposite(antonym) of de jure, you cannot be de jure and de facto at the same time. :dead:

Because of Puntland being a federal state, it can in some regards act like an independent state. Just like how California can pass their own laws etc etc.

@Thegoodshepherd if Puntland would declare independence it would become a breakaway state that is initially unrecognized internationally. De facto state would then be an appropriate way to describe Puntland.

I'm not a hater, Puntland ha noolaato laakin its just a highly autonomous state that functions like a de jure country in many aspects.
