You have to be specific which part of gedo you're talking about , demographics on east bank were different to west bank , on the west bank there were borana and garre all the way till ceel waaq, on the east bank there were waaqdore, gisaargude, gawaawiin, macalinwiin etc. Marexan were welcomed by a certain Gasaargude Geraad in 19th century and all other members of Gedo Ganaane council disagreed with his decision including his own kinsmen. In fact even the borana region appears to be a somali region historically speaking but the borana conquered the place and absorbed a number of somali clans. That being said you can still find garre in the borana region speaking the oromo language.
