Saudi Authorities Increase Prison Sentence of Sheikh Nasser Al-Omar from 10 to 30 Years

The Saudi Specialised Criminal Court in Riyadh have increased the prison sentence of Sheikh Dr. Nasser Al-Omar from 10 to 30 years, with a 4-year stay of execution.

Sheikh Nasser was arrested in August 2018 because of his tweets talking about some social transformations in Saudi Arabia.

Sheikh Nasser is a preacher and academic, formerly a professor at the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud university.

In 2005, Sheikh Nasser opposed rewriting Saudi religious textbooks to eliminate language and teachings identified as hostile by the US.

He was also one of 26 clerics who signed a fatwa saying that Iraqis should oppose US troops in their country.

In an interview with PBS Frontline, al-Omar said the arrival of US troops in Saudi Arabia in 1990 was the US’s “biggest” mistake.

In 2011, he signed a letter calling for the release of thousands of political prisoners under arrest in Saudi Arabia – many were arrested under terrorism charges after 2003.

It would be better if he was silent

he asked for terrorists to be freed, if this is true he should remain jailed

Why should we be interested in Saudi affairs?

And why does it have to be Saudi specifically?

People are naïve to not question the agenda behind the Saudi-bashing trend.

It is because of Saudi's association with Salafiyyah. In order to liberalize Muslims, Salafiyyah has to be eliminated.

Salafiyyah is a threat to liberal hegemony, "liberal world order". It is a problem for the agendas of Sufism, Shi'ism and feminism.

Getting people to froth at the mouth against Saudi and Salafiyyah is a vital step in moving us towards the normalization of things like "homo imams" in the mosques.

We should be wary of this thread because this Imam was imprisoned for being against the liberalisation of Saudi Arabia, because being against Saudi normalizes homo imams? What kind of mental gymnastics is this? :mindblown:

what you're doing is strawman.

you're distorting my position in an easy to attack way.

firstly- why is it that Saudi specifically is targeted this way?

why not the governments of Somalia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Iran, etc.?

because Saudi is deeply associated with Salafiyyah.

it isn't really about Saudi in itself. it's about Salafiyyah. give it thirty years when very likely having Salafi views is basically illegal in the West and you have pro-lgbt sermons out here in the mosques.

yes, riling people up against Saudi is part of the process of moving us in that direction.

you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see how liberals, homos and feminists stand to gain from Muslims being riled up against Saudi.

honestly, if people don't understand what I'm getting at here I think they must not have an understanding of history. this kind of thing has happened all throughout history.

you have an establishment. you rile people up against that establishment. the old establishment is overturned and a new establishment is brought in that is way worse.

the West is already very clear what kind of "Islam" they want for Muslims. what they want is pro-lgbt, pro-feminism, pro-democracy.

Saudi has massive influence. they represent a sort of religious establishment. they have a long history of promoting Salafiyyah.

it's very simple. before they could bring in the bolsheviks, they needed to rile up the peasants against the tsar. before the West can really institutionalize the kind of "Islam" they want to be established, they need to rile people up against Saudi and Salafiyyah.

you have to be living under a rock to not see that the West is out to push feminism and homoism on the entire world. if martians land, they'll be trying to push it on the martians. and you don't have to be a genius to see how Salafiyyah conflicts with that agenda.

You are talking about the past, not the present. Saudi in the future won’t be salafi. Mohamed bin salman is hell bent on eradicating salafism and promoting a new version of Islam.

“In an interview with "Al-Arabiya", the Saudi Crown Prince suggests concentrating the constitution and laws on the Koran, eliminating many hadiths (sayings of the Prophet). He speaks of the need for a current “interpretation” of the Koran”

this is why this imam has been imprisoned, because he was against concerts, liberalism, night clubs, etc being introduced into Saudi. You say that in 30 years in the west, having salafi views will be illegal, but in 2022 having Muslim views is becoming illegal in saudi. Yet you are still breaking your spine defending them?

I mean for example... if you want to rile people up against Communism, what is something you might do? Give an hour-long lecture against the Soviet Union.

technically the Soviet Union and Marxism are not the same thing but that doesn't really matter. give an hour-long lecture on "Horrors of the Soviet Union" and people will leave fired up against Communism.

in the same way, if you want to rile people against Salafiyyah, you don't need to actually refute Salafiyyah. just give an hour-long lecture against Saudi Arabia.

technically Saudi and Salafiyyah are not the same thing but that doesn't really matter. give an hour-long lecture on how Saudi is allegedly the most evil country in the world and people will leave fired up against Salafiyyah.

I think Saudis are very far from embracing homos, right now it seems to be about giving women rights like driving cars and traveling and limiting the powers of the religious police

But you have to agree that salafists are ultra conservative

You people are a joke.

Saudi Arabia was build by an alliance between Muhammed bin Abdulwahab RA and emir saud yes.

But that doesn't mean salafiyah will hold responsibility of Saudi family action.

Can't you understand that Saudis is a dynasty.

And salafiyah is aqeeda

Salafism was there way before history even know who is Saudis.

Is shiekh Al Islam ibn taymiyah a Saudi.

Is shiekh ibn khuzimah a Saudi.

Subhanallah

MBS himself has said he basically wants to go back to pre-1979 Saudi. this would mean a more Saudi, sure, but to say it would constitute actually eliminating Salafiyyah would be an exaggeration. it would mean Salafis have less influence over the government but it isn't like every single Salafi would be hunted down or something. There are still tons of Saudi scholars promoting Salafiyyah and doing so very openly and while having good relations with the government. I don't think those people who got arrested were arrested for being Salafis- I think they were arrested for doing something that got them in trouble with the government but not simply just being Salafi.

Saudi is a Muslim country. sure if you go and speak against the government you could get in trouble. but if being Muslim was illegal in Saudi, I think they'd have to arrest most of their population. and I don't see how it's illegal to be Muslim or Salafi there if Salafi preachers are still openly preaching from Saudi.

and if we're against liberalism, Saudi even these days is one of the least liberal countries in the Muslim world. so if we were going after liberalism and going after Muslim governments on that basis, Saudi would be one of the last countries on that list. so to be against liberalism and on that basis to attack one of the most conservative countries in the world makes no sense.

yes, Saudi even in its current more liberal form is still one of the most conservative countries in the world. this is why liberals and feminists all froth at the mouth against Saudi

yes, and the way that riling people up against Saudi plays into the hands of liberalism is pure coincidence, supposedly. that is what liberals like you want us to think.

I don’t care if Saudi Arabia remains Salafi, but I think that it should represent Islam.

Banning women from driving is wrong.

Opening nightclubs, raves and funding wars against other Muslim countries is also wrong.

I think that Hejaz should be made it’s own separate country similar to the Vatican and let it be run by a council of ulema from around the world.

You have exposed yourself now, you can’t even condemn Mohamed bin salman wanting to change interpretation for the quran and eliminating hadith. That is so shameful. You would rather defend a man opening night clubs than an imam that warns people against night clubs and liberalism. Typical madkhali.
