What school in Islam puts their prayer rug to an angle like almost a 45 degree angle? And why?

I'm spending Eid with my Harari family friends. And they keep doing this shit, it is freaking me out. I want to ask but I don't want to offend anyone!

Never heard of it, so does part of their body not stand on the salli?

They do this at weddings and other events too. The few Somalis here including my mum (I can't pray rn) all prayed straight ahead. They always put their prayer rug at an angle, my mum said before it's their school of Islam (madhab).

Sometimes the qibla will be at an angle? It's usually not straight.

Maybe they're patriotic and pray towards harare?

I put my qibla towards garowe personally so it might not be that much of a reach :mjlol:

Yeah I know them. They follow some weird cult called Ahbash.

They pray in a totally different direction then the rest of the muslims here.

I think that's it! Omfg they all have this spiritual leader forgot what he's called?
I'm going to stick with my abdis, I legit get a shiver down my spine whenever I see one of them pray. It just feels so wrong!

Love the culture but cannot risk my eternal salvation.

They almost converted me once. Sat through one of their classes and I was like tf is this shit? :gucciwhat:

:gucciwhat: so u were considering marrying a harari before today?:heh:

Yeah. If I could fine one tall enough for me. I'm 5'7.5, 6 feet in heels. They're notoriously short. My mum doesn't care who I marry as long as they're a practicing Sunni Muslim and not black or white.

My Paternal uncles are hardcore qabilist and want a guy only from their tribe or three other preapproved ones. I already talked to my maternal uncle in the US and we will circumvent them inshallah and he'll be my wali no matter what.
