Basra you've had this lowly opinion of Somalis and a high admiration of Brits since 2004. This is deeply engrained in you and won't change.

Somalis are not hierarchically structured and very organized which you seem to be attracted to more. Other ethnicities that were nomadic are similar to us in being tribal, warrior like, brave, proud and were rarely enslaved.. There are disadvantages to this as well but you know them well.

Looking at the things you value us Somalis like the kazaks,mongols and other nomadic ppl, we didn't value paintings, arts, writing, building structures, intricate designs, making things etc.. we were mostly oral societies. All the things you mention require ppl not to be nomadic and to be permanent residence in one specific area ie. farming societies.

As you said, this is what YOU value! This shows that your opinion is highly subjective and are aspects in culture that you value which don't necessarily mean are better objectively.

Me having a high esteem of my people comes from my culture which doesn't accept that anyone is above us. This is an aspect which you are lacking in..

As observed by a brit, from his book Warriors: Life and Death Among the Somalis:
"A Somali always felt himself to be twice as good as any white man, or any other kind of man at all, and still does, even when he is wrong. These are the things I admire about our culture, that many cultures do not possess. These aspect of culture I believe are important, because believing people are above you can be detrimental, eg. as you can see with how Kenyans are treated by ajanib in their own homeland, or how whites are worshipped and treated like Kings in many Asian/African countries.

This is why I also admire the history of other nomadic culture like the Beja of Sudan, the Turkic nomads etc. The bravery, pride and fierceness of the Chechens must have come from their nomadic past, and I respect them for that as well.

Just a little advice, think outside the box sometimes. Like one poster said up there, it takes a rare mind to usually think out of the norm. It is expected for someone to be loyal to their own culture. Our understanding expands if we allow room for imperfection in ourselves and our culture.

In my argument i have observed the irony that ISLAM played in making a once savage nation, affecting the so called world class civilized world later. I am well aware of the filth of the English aristocracy in 18th century, I have observed that while they had those amazing castles and innovative culture customs, they were pooping in small bowls. Thats disgusting. But then again when i read their letters, i am in love again.I guess in my growth, i may need to learn that ALL cultures are good in their own special way. I happen to admire the Brit culture especially for Literature and written recordings. Some times reading old letters of the 1600-19th century English letters gives me mad orgasm. I mean, even when the colonial brits were discussing Somalis in the 18th century writings, that gave me some intense JOY!!!

The proudest thing in our culture is the love we have for our elders and even for one another.

Somalis will come together and help one another when in need.

He had liver transplant surgery and had complications therefore he had to stay in the hospital for few weeks, when Somalis heard about this, they took turns staying with him in the hospital. A lot of people volunteered and they've even successfully helped him sponsor his children to come to Mn.

I've never felt more proud to be Somali when I heard that.

Our people might do some fucked up shit at times but at the end of the day, they will come through when one of us is in need.
