Wonderful climate friendly development from Puntland. Garowe will be remembered for taking the lead on this one

Garowe is very windy, smart to combine solar energy with wind energy.

The whole upper eastern part of Somalia (Galmudug & Puntland) is very windy + gets a ton of solar radiation. Combine this with the large unused swaths of land and they are perfect areas for wind and solar farms. Though this project is a good start, it's nowhere close to the potential.

Just so everybody gets a sense of how big wind power alone is in Somalia I've done some math.

By covering just 3.35% (6025 square km) of Galmudug & Puntland combined area with wind farms, it would generate enough electricity to give 13 million Somalis the same about of energy that an average Norwegian uses per year, and Norwegians use a shit ton per capita (top 5 in the world) as Norwegians use electricity for everything from warming water to electric stoves. This is of course too much energy for any Somali in Somalia no matter the living of standard but it goes to show you the potential for renewable energy in Somalia. And this is with windpower alone using the areas of Galmudug and Puntland.

This is why I'm gonna become an Mech Engineer with specialization in renewable energy:rejoice:

I've been to Gaalkacyo all the way to Borama, and Garowe is much more windy. Not even close. I haven't been to Bari, and coastal area's, so I can't comment. But I assume that they have more wind than inland areas.
Of course, the wind is stronger the closer you are to the coast. I was going by this map

Each one can produce 800 - 1500 kilowatts of energy.

The project is carried out by NECSOM which is the biggest electricity provider in the Nugaal region and one of the biggest electric utility companies in Puntland

Oh my lord garowe is popping

@Air Jalam niggas was hating on us when we was broke but they look up to us now :ohhhdamn:
Garowe used to be meel lagu nasto and drink shaah on the way to Bosaso and Galkacyo

Now look at it :rejoice:

It's only gonna get better. Can't wait to go back IA.

Puntland's NECSOM (national energy company) invited engineers from other regions in Somalia; Mogadishu, Kismaayo, LaasCaanood etc, to learn about renewable energy.

NECSOM is leading the way in renewable energy in Puntland and will expand these skills to other Somalis and other regions.
