What colour/background do you suspect they had?

My guess is that they were 60-70 % West Asian, and 30-40 % Nilotic. So probably more Middle Eastern looking Cushitics.

I actually saw an AA arguing that the ancient Egyptians were black by showing pictures of Somalis and Ethiopians, and then comparing them to paintings of AE. So he claims AE history through east Africans, even though he himself has west African origins.

There’s no proof that the Early-Middle age Ancient Egyptians were closely related to modern day Egyptians as there hasn’t been any extractions done on them. The Coptics however are the closest modern day population to the Middle-Late age Ancient Egyptians.
