PL government must control its elders

PL and Somalia in general need to have serious discusssions on the role of ‘Elders’. They may have had a role in a nomadic society in terms of dispute resolution, but they should have a limited role as the country/regions progresses and there are local elected leaders.

Look at the damage the likes of Boqor Burhaan has done in PL, undermining state authority.

The other problem is anybody can claim to be an elder, ugaas, etc. I think Somaliland has it right in having a system of guurti with legitimate elders that have specific roles.

Just copy Somalilands model.

Two branches of parliament

House of Elders "Guurti"
has 82 members, representing traditional leaders. The House of Elders is mandated with considering bills proposed by the lower house of the parliament,

Somaliland House of Representatives.
  • Directly elected MP representing constituent areas

Somaliland model is good. Definitely way ahead of the rest of Somalia and region when it comes to democratic government. PL still has a lot to learn from SL. Kudos to duriyada.

Puntland elders are not as crazy as our wild elders. But it was funny when they say hebel diyanu hubka ciidanka ha qaato. I was like wtf is wrong with these people. That's like creating a new warlord. All the heavy weapons and technicals should be the property of the government , period.

The good thing about this in PLs case, they can see what SL is doing and their mistakes and refine it so they don't have the same flaws...

For Example:

SL elections, saw the good and bad. then just worked on their own and made sure to address the flaws they found with SL

@En_Sabah Nur The role of the elder is different in SL and PL. In our constitution they are limited to conflict resolution(both civil n political) and traditional matters so their no possibility of a Guurti. If they become political like the Guurti, no-one will trust them anymore as ppl will say they only care for their own political interest.

Our Isimo operate very hands-off in politics and do not interfere in day to day government only when there is a disagreement can they step in becuz they're respected as neutral. But if they become guurti who will listen to them? they will start to pick sides for their own interest. Besides the Gurti are not the real isimo of Isaaq anyways, as they are not involved in politics either. They are self declared elders the one in Gurti, when shit hits the fan, they know they have no real power.

SL Guurti consists of MPs selected by Elders to represent them and also the clans in large in the parliament to safe guard the peace in the country they aren't the actual caqils saladin or Garaads they're chosen MPs of the diverse Qabils

now not only are you not listening to the decree of the ISIMO you are pissing on their statements. You openly support a weak dictator like deni against your ISIMO.

stop hiding, the people demand an answer you hypocrite.

PL will study the model of the Gurti but not yet, it's not workable for us in our current system. Our Isimo already select MP'S in PL 'tribal parliament', so our parliament is similar to your Guurti. Once the Isimo lose this ability to do this due to 'democracy' and the ppl selecting their mps, it will be interesting whether they will just retain 'conflict resolution duties' or will they actually form a 'guurti'. We shall see, it will be interestng.

@Gantaal97 Golaha Isimada might become a reality in PL once the ISIMO lose power to democracy. But how they structure the Golaha Isimada will be critical. I say rather then being a 'chamber' like SL which is involved in day to day politics.

In my view we should make golaha isimada the 'safeguarders' of the constitution so it becomes similar to a constitutional monarchy where they are not involved in day to day matters of government but have the vested power of 'dismissing' the government in the event of a disaster on top of they're conflict resolution roles plus 'giving the royal decree' of the elected govt of the day as this will stop parties causing armed 'conflict' cuz the Isimo have officiated the party who has won.

In reality they have this power vested already in their clans, but we should codify it.

You can listen to someone without having to obey them? There's much less respect for elders in South Central than in PL I believe hence why we're less peaceful @DR OSMAN

@InaShaqalle I respect all the Isimo for they're role as 'conflict resolution be it civil or political' But we as the people have a right to tell our Isimo if they're decision was right or wrong, it's not disobedience to correct them if you have evidence. PSF as the name suggests is a government entity, the americans didn't create it to fund and arm a family it's not DSF. Every public institution is under government control not a family control.

We don't worship our ISIMO, we respect their authority though and markay qaldaman we will respectfully point out the problem with their decision and the problems it could lead to and how all public institutions will start to be claimed by families n clans. I think the wise isimo will come to reason and common sense. This doesn't diminish their authority though, if after the evidence n reasons are provided why we rejected and if they still hang onto their decision, it will be final.

@TekNiKo @Bariire love to speak about Omar Mahmoud aka Rushka. Nice try at isku dir. PL was founded by them and also your government in Somalia, that alone tells u the power of Omar Mahmoud. U run a government that was given to you by Omar Mahmoud. They saved PL and Somalia. Issa Mahmoud handed you the constitution u will work under.

We are waiting for Deni to put the nail on you also, he will be remembered for Democracy in PL hadu hirgeliyo.
