I must apologize to Boqor Burhan. He was in the right in this situation and he’s doing his part in resolving the issues.
Atleast they didnt start fighting each other as happened in the south when the usc took over and afterwards splitted also they maintained peace in a large area of Somalia for 3 decades which is admirablePL and Somalia in general need to have serious discusssions on the role of ‘Elders’. They may have had a role in a nomadic society in terms of dispute resolution, but they should have a limited role as the country/regions progresses and there are local elected leaders.
Look at the damage the likes of Boqor Burhaan has done in PL, undermining state authority.
The other problem is anybody can claim to be an elder, ugaas, etc. I think Somaliland has it right in having a system of guurti with legitimate elders that have specific roles.
The traditional leaders are the reason dhul udug has enjoyed peace for 3 decades. I do believe they should at some point make way for complete civilian rule but it’s a gradual process.Atleast they didnt start fighting each other as happened in the south when the usc took over and afterwards splitted also they maintained peace in a large area of Somalia for 3 decades which is admirable
