Original Geeljire dishes

Yoo

Eel eh?
its not "imported" but stolen by pirates, like I said theres hundreds of these laying around the coast and still some missing luxury yachts from pirate seizures which I would have tried to get my hands on if it were safer
Why wouldnt it be safe? most pirates are in PL no? or are there still huge pirate towns on the coast :noneck::siilaanyosmile:

Warya, you have loose morals at times. Are you pro-piracy. It seems like it. :gnzbryw:

#ThugLife

PS. I am against piracy. It ruins the Somali name and only makes the economy worse (increased shipping costs due to high insurance premiums).

You'd get shot trying to sneak away with the unused ship still:farmajoyaab:

im not pro piracy and its almost died out entirely, but in the successful missions these ships end up on our coast and are unused and like I said there are like 2 or 3 instances that they were expensive yachts being wasted on the coast of somali among other things like oil tankers lol:ooh:(the oil was taken off obviously)
if you see a 40 million dollar yacht off some deserted coast unused would you not want to use it @Apollo or do you see it as immoral?

Do we have the materials to make ships? modern ones ofc

Most modern cheap boats and ships are made from fibre glass.

We have all the materials to create it other than plastic/petroleum which we can import for cheap.

It just requires a certain level of skills and industry know-how to get started but we can easily find those in the global marketplace...It's an old tech.

We can also use it to build all sorts of products and components.

About the tree thing, it is not true. There are some mountain forests in Northern Somalia that have a lot of trees.

But it would be a logistic nightmare to carry that all the way to the coasts when you only had donkeys and camels.
There are trees in Somalia ofc but not the type to make big ships, that’s why across the red sea region (both African/Arab) the only types used were dhows.

Plus it takes 2000 trees to make just one war ship. Northern somali mountains just don’t have the capacity to build that many ships or else it’s resources would be easily depleted.

You guys are crazy over food, I just had my thoughts.

They are four things Somalis ate

Grain:
-Wheat
-Sorghum
-Corn (imported)
-Rice
-Fenugreek

Pulses:
-Lentils (imported)
-Adzuki beans

Grain is usually eaten more than meat because it last longer, and it is easier to cook it doesn't take 3hr to cook instead it would be a hour or less.

Meat:
-Camel
-Goat
-Lamb
-Fish

Milk:
-Camel Milk
-Cow Milk
-Goat milk

why would it not be somali? are you just spouting things without proof?
Sorghum is grown across Somalia, and is the preferred flour for making Canjeero.

It’s definitely a Somali dish.

@Tukraq

We are discussing the origins of these dishes and not how we adopted to them like the recipes we use to create them. Injera aka canjeero has its origins in Ethiopia and maybe beyond their shores. The Geeljire stable diet has always been cad (meat) iyo caano (milk). Even the bananas that we adore so much and eat it even with biscuits was introduced to our shores by the Italians. Why do you guys feel so paranoid about it?

Sorghum is native to Somalia and was not introduced by colonialists and is the flour used to make canjeero. I did not say that bananas were a native somali food, but canjeero.

Agropastoralist clans like the Rahanweyn, Habar Awal, Ciise, Jidwaaq, Gadabursi etc all grew sorghum and other grains so what you are saying is true. No doubt in some regions like eastern somaliland and puntland, that may have very well been the case (though they imported rice and coffee etc).

I spoke with several old men who used to herd geel with my father during his childhood. They told me the only time they ate something was during eid days. They only drank caano geel to survive but it’s a lot more nutritious than eating plain carbs. if they were drinking 12 cups of caano geel per day, they were getting at least 70g of protein and 1500cals per day from it and lots of calcium, vitamin C

@Tukraq geeljirre ancestor invented Tiaramisu desert.

As disgusting as it may sound, many Somali nomads are still drinking camel urine to cure diseases. Some here will deny it because it sounds too bad. Damn, educate and give them opportunities to progress because that’s how they live. Too much fake pride.

We need to hunt down whoever profanned our sacred beasts of burden.

People drink that shit? Reminds me of some tribes in Africa that wash themselves with it directly from the source. In this case it's cows.
