Seems like those on welfare were cut out while those looking for work still got free ESL. I don't see the problem here. It discourages people to not take welfare. People on welfare don't want to integrate into society. Besides, that is a very old article.

I have a theory that Somali guys who came to the West later in life are more susceptible to being coconuts. In my experience, it is incredibly rare to see a Somali who was born and raised in the diaspora who is also fond of right wing politicians or who holds Cadaans on a pedestal.

Universal Credit may be the best thing that occurred to the people that requires it, for quite sometime, in term of financial incentives, the free lessons, during covid, the free school meal vouchers and packages, the subsidies for leisure and so on.

Without left leaning politicians, majority of the Somali’s who came to the west as refugees would still be stuck in refugee camps.

That being said, I don’t think there is huge differences in philosophies of western mainstream political parties today. Both groups serve the elites.
