Non-Africans can barely tell the difference between Somalis and other Africans, unless you are in the minority light-skinned and aquiline featured Somali group.

Most Somalis are maariin to dark with sharp features but a lot of Afro-Arabs look like that also.

We are known as Somalis but trust me, I did ask around, to the untrained eye, they cannot tell Africans apart!!

Just like how we cannot tell a Chinese apart from a Korean.

Well, because the term "African American" is only for those Americans who are descendant from the African slaves who have been shipped to America. So Somalis and other African immigrant don't fall under this term. That's why you hear Somali-American, Nigerian-American and other-American.

Societies weren't programmed to be multi cultural, they were designed to be homogeneous. It's not racist pointing out the differences between people who aren't from the same race/tribe as you.
