I’ve always had a soft spot for the 80’s/90’s retro anime design. They’re clearly have a batter visual design than the modern days anime. I believe the anime design heavily declined in the 2010’s era. They’re too bright and too cartoony.


The 80’s//90’s had this better visual design. It was slightly realistic not too real either. Just in the balance.

I think this is an AI video because theres a lot of imperfections like sometimes the character is just being dragged but other times the shirt is animated like 2d and other times it looks like cg. And the slight blurring as well as mixed animation techniques

But your points still stands about older designs. What the reason that everyone says older is better is because older animation was painted physically on cels (acrylic sheets) then photographed whereas now it can be drawn digitally. Meaning the imperfections that would happen in the process are minimised. Those imperfections like film grain and vaguer lines give the image a softer feel thats why people say it feels warmer or more real than digital

Wallhi that’s interesting. I’ve thought they’re something off about the modern day design. So all this time they’ve been using the digital art design instead of the physical craft. They need to come back to these designs. What’s put me off about the current day anime is the brightness and cuteness they made it appear. What a downgrade

Because there is too much slop anime and the digital is not forgiving when your direction is bad. There are still anime nowadays that have great production and direction and postprocessing as well as there was also old anime that was essentially a slideshow

Cowboy Bepop and Blue Gender are the only two 90’s anime I’ve watched. I need to watch more 90’s anime. Seriously.

% I agree saxib. Have you seen Berserk 1997? When they’ve revived it in the mid 2010’s (2016) the animation didn’t felt the same. Most people prefer the 90’s retro design better. It was a turn off when they brought it back. One of the biggest problem is the Japanese animation industry degrading into something too cute, cartoony and downright girly.

I dont think japan would do that for the forseeable future because theyre stuck in the past and havent moved on enough to be able to look back on this era in fondness Sxb they still play games in arcades and like a few years ago stopped using floppy disks However if you are looking for interesting compositings i recommend the elusive samurai was last year anime

I wouldn't even call it "girly". It's downright creepy, borderline pedo stuff a lot of the time. And just overly sexualizing the naago in general. With the latter maybe it's the Sheiyukh upbringing in me but i always found it off-putting. I'm trying to watch an action series, not softcore p0rn.

Si la mid wey sameyeen fist of the north star series cusub never forgive the cgi that new series got not one proper release anime and its 40+ years old

Holy sh!t you get it. It’s the weird tendency to make the animation too cute and quite repetitively perverted. Even going this far to make the teenage fictional characters by giving them b00bs. It’s weird and repetitive. I can’t even say anime is cool anymore without people thinking of these cute looking smily characters (ugh). But f*ck it. I don’t care what people think I enjoy what I like.

Tite Kubo is the greatest artist in the world and I thank him everyday for giving bleach.

They could’ve just make the animation original and gave us the retro design. But I dead you not they’ve fu*cked it up by making it look so superficial. WTF. I guess this is the lesson to be learned.
