No advanced weaponry in Somalia has destroyed our capabilities

Its a catch 22 where Somalia cannot get weaponry until it controls Alshabab areas but cannot take over those areas without a strong force.

Its disheartening to see politicians spend 2 months arguing over elections when people are dying every day. They should be focusing on military growth.

now turkey gave Somalia armored offensive trucks which can be a great advantage against al Shabab.

I don't want to blame others for our problems cause Somali politicians are a disgrace, but let's keep it real. The West isn't interested in stabilizing Somalia. The weapons embargo is a clear proof of this.
They say Somalia is weak and can't be trusted with weapons? Fine, send AMISOM to recapture terrorist controlled territories. At the same time they say Amisom can't do anything cause they are just peacekeepers and their job is protecting government held areas.
They don't want the SNA to solve the problem and they don't want Amisom to do it. It's obvious the west prefers the status Quo.

One of the reasons why Abdullahi Yusuf resigned, his memoir was a good book. Even then he kept asking for help and they refused to lift sanctions.

The main issue is what happened in 91. The rebels destroyed everything including the military, every country in africa that experienced civil war still kept their military almost intact. We are the only fools who destroyed their own army, navy, airforce etc. If we still had even soviet era weapons we wouldn't be in this mess

Yup it was pretty much all sold or scrapped for parts to sell. Its been 30 years and only recently are seeing a strong central government.

We are also seeing some new weapons in the hands of Gorgor due to Turkish influence. The armoured trucks ,new weapons and better organisation will give us an edge.

Also i think if the FGS focuses on Alshabab held areas that aren't strongholds we can localize the violence. Galgaduud should be the next step for 2021 while slowly clearing shabelle from both sides.

By 2027 we should have 20k Turkish trained troops and 10-20K non Turkish trained troops. This will be enough to retake Somalia.

However if Somalia goes to a civil war again we are screwed.

Siad Barres army was good for conventional warfare but probably horrible at anti-guerilla tactics that we are dealing with.

However airpower is what we need, drones would be perfect to wipe out Alshabab.

We need air power, drones, tanks etc. A few armored vehicles won't help us that much
well, this stuff needs a stable government.

Iโ€™m happy arms embargo isnโ€™t lifted. Imagine SNA raiding federal states and massacring citizens for the Presidentโ€™s political or clan agenda. Alx

You don't need overwhelming force to defeat al shabab

all you need is solid intelligence and consistency.

Somalia needs an underground mafia that work like AS to defeat AS

Conventional military vs guerilla forces not gonna work
