Most to least prosperous Countries in 2020

Ethiopia is a big market. We will need all ports of our neighbors (Berbera and other Somali ports, Djibouti, Eritrean Assab, Kenyan Lamu and even Port Sudan). As soon as Berbera is ready Ethiopia will surly start using it. No question about it. Currently Berbera, Assab and Lamu ports are finalizing their projects to make the ports ready for business.

You Xabashis are perennial underachievers. For a country that prides itself for having been an ancient empire and to have never been colonized, you are in a sorry state now. Even compared to other developing countries in Africa like Kenya, Ghana etc Ethiopia is doing very badly in basic economic indicators like literacy rates, access to electricity, health care etc. I was even surprised to learn that Ethiopia doesn't even have a stocks exchange.

Ethiopia has a huge land size and a big population and natural resources. This is an advantage that can be harnessed for economic development. Instead Ethiopia is in a sorry state economically. @xabashi what is your excuse?
Not to mention due to its orthodox Christian roots, Ethiopia is favored heavily compare to its neighboring countries and have very close ties with the Vatican. And Ethiopia receives enormous amount of aid.

Africa is a cursed continent, how can South America be more prosperous? Smh to be the richest in resources outta all 7 and yet to be the poorest it’s something that will never be fully comprehended in human history.

South Americans got semi-Western culture, especially Chile, Argentina, and Southern part of Brazil.

Hello,
in regards of business sectors to invest in Ethiopia, which one do you believe is the most profitable for a foreign investor in Ethiopia?

Much of the business of Somali ports from north to south is going to be heavily connected to Ethiopia, no doubt. Inshallah, I hope to get my piece of this cake in Bosaso someday soon.

The 10 countries that receive the most aid from the U.S:

  1. Afghanistan ($4.89 billion)
  2. Israel ($3.3 billion)
  3. Jordan ($1.72 billion)
  4. Egypt ($1.46 billion)
  5. Iraq ($960 million)
  6. Ethiopia ($922 million)
  7. Yemen ($809 million)
  8. Colombia ($800 million)
  9. Nigeria ($793 million)
  10. Lebanon ($790 million)

starting from 2011-2014 UK alone gave Ethiopia 2 billion in aid for development.

“The top five countries receiving UK aid in 2019 were Pakistan, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Yemen and Nigeria....” https://news.trust.org/item/20201120164622-38et5/

For comparison since 2006, Somalia received 3 billion in aid from the U.S. That means Ethiopia receives just in 3years, what it took Somalia to receive in 14. Also Somalia nor Somaliland top the list for UK foreign aid, U.S foreign aid, World Bank recipients. Ethiopia is in the top 10 in most foreign aids.

For example in the development assistance committee with 30 donors from Europe and Asia, guess who tops the list again? Ethiopia.

Western "aid" is just a scam.

Until Ethiopia totally reforms it's government and economic policies, you should not waste your capital trying to invest there. Ethiopia is governed like a communist state and it's not friendly to foreign investors. The government directly controls every economic sector. This means a lot of bureaucracy and red tape in doing business. There is practically no private sector. For example the government owns all the banks and telecommunications companies.

If you want to invest in East Africa you are better off going to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda or Zambia. There is a reason Somali businesses thrive in the countries I mentioned and not in Ethiopia.

How? Please elaborate.

I thought this was well-known and apparent? Everyone knows that money is mostly a bribe for local despots and gets pocketed or inappropriately used. And either way, these countries have problems way too numerous and big to solve with a cheque.
