The world can be a cruel unrelenting place at times. You are and always will be a prey to another man in a foreign land especially as an African/Black man. This is the end result. Most blame fall on the hands of political leaders in Somalia, useless tribal elders and decades of poor and non-existent planning. Inshallah, our brother can escape and see better days.

When you know the risks of tahriib it's not understable as to why one would do it. Now Somalis are getting deported by the boat load, the Somali government is getting back on its feet, and the embassy in the US is cooperating with taking Somali citizens back. Why didn't he just marry a US citizen? Maybe he was really depressed and thought it was better to risk death. It's hard to feel sorry for hard headed Somalis sometimes, no matter how many times they've been told you'll be abused, raped, beaten by human traffickers they believe we in the West are xasid. So why stop them? Let them see the xasidnimo of the west for themselves. They think inay xaq uu leeyihin sharci so if they want to go through this treacherous journey why stop them?

He knew the risks and took the trip anyway.

So did your folks when they made the trek to whatever gaalo country you guys were luck enough to be accepted in.

We made a truly horrific trek from Mogadishu to Gedo to finally ending up in Ohio all these years later, infinitely better off than I would've been had I remained.

Caadi iska dhiga ffs

The guy's most likely from the north, which is peaceful unlike the south where my family are from. There are plenty of opportunities in the north, it's just that Somalis don't want to take them, so young Oromo guys instead trek thousands of KM's from Ethiopia to take them instead.

Secondly, tahreeb costs thousands of dollars. Why didn't he invest in a business with that money? Why embark on such a dangerous journey instead?

Everyone keeps talking about investing money in a business but let's be honest, how many of you would take $10,000 to rip up your passport and take a one way trip to Somalia?

God knows I'd be smuggling myself through Mexico.

$10,000 > dangerous trip to Libya
Passport > $10,000

:manny:

If I had that type of money and I was born in Somalia, I'd stay.

Again, thank God you don't have to make that decision.

People want a future for themselves and their children. You can't blame them for wanting what you take for granted i.e not living in a literal shithole

So if you had $10,000 and you born inside Somalia, would you waste all of that money on tahreeb instead of investing in a business?

Or are you saying that $10,000 is not enough to make a future for yourself and your children?

I understand where you're coming from but running from war and running to a gaalo country for better opportunities is completely different.

Yes.

What planet do you people live in where there are flourishing businesses in Somalia that aren't run by extremely corrupt and well connected cutthroats and aren't hotels and shitty restaurants?

:faysalwtf:

Its as if you think our per capita gdp is 60,000 instead of 600

How?

Grinding poverty is as much a motivator as war.

And what if you get deported after finally reaching the west? You'll be back in Somalia and be broke. You'd probably commit suicide right?

As I've said, $10,000 is more than enough money to invest in a business in Somalia and live a comfortable lifestyle. To me, a comfortable lifestyle is a steady income, food on the table, a roof over my head, private education for my children, stress free and a wife or two. Why trade that away for Instagram pictures?

And do what? Steal the jobs from the natives and fuel more tahreeb? No thanks.

When I can offer something to Somalia, I'll go back.

You don't need to steal jobs, as there are very little jobs to steal. I have cousins back home with full degrees and masters unable to get a single job. Just because you live in a high income civilised country with an economy, and social welfare doesn't mean they have that luxury.

Somalia is a fourth world country where all your supposed comforts can be taken away from you in the blink of an eye. There is no meaningful future for your or your children in comparison to a Western lifestyle that's superior in almost every way in the long run.

Again, Somalia is a dirt poor country with a tragic economy. I'd imagine business isn't really a thing there beyond a few proto-chaebols and hotels. What sort of a market can you have in a country where the average person lives on less than $2 a day?

Your superior
Hmmm

1) tahriib costs thousand $$$
2) everyone knows the risks of tahriib
3) Libya is a famous hellhole with civil war and savage people

Sad but why didn't he use that tahriib money to set up a small business by himself or relatives/friends etc
