    Could be an Arabic loanword in Malay. They are Muslims after all and influenced by Arabs historically. Father in Arabic also contains Ab.

    Some Indian guy I talked to said that his people use the same word.
    I don't think basic words like that could ever be loan words. It is probably just a coincidence.

    "Waa" in Japanese also happens to translate in English to "is" . Cool how languages around the world have similar words for the same meaning.
