You are not alone, I know few ladies who wear the hijab when they are around Somalis or @ home, but take it off when they venture further out. You will see hijabis by day and clubbers by night. I even know one who used to wear the face mask aka niqab in the hood and takes off when she is in the downtown area. Before you call it quits the bond you have with your family, make sure you have very close friends who will understand and support you. It's not at all making men respectful towards you, thank god I don't wear it, I blend in easily when walking through crowds of people, whereas a niqabi or a hijabi will be stared at a lot, defeats the purpose. Since the inception of freedom in the west a hijabi has a right to wear a balaclava if she wants, Whereas in a theocratic authoritarian state your criticised for not wearing it ??? If a shariah law was mandated in England where all other religions accept Christianity was accepted people here would be screaming and ranting, but no we have freedoms unlike Islamic nations where minorities are prosecuted, the hypocrisy is real. Atheists are constantly chanted with death threats and hacked to death I don't even want to speak about Christian minorities whom are often isolated and marginalised.
