He was talking about the situation in the 70s and 80s, today's/more recent situation is very, very different. The OLF was weak because of many reasons, none of which had to do with lack of support, or lack of bravery among Oromos, etc. It was weak mostly due to leadership inefficiency. Just look at how most of the OLF leaders fled in the 1990s, when the TPLF-EPRDF-EPLF attacked their disarmed, encamped soldiers.
TPLF was the best after the EPLF, true, because for one thing, it is easier to unite and manage a smaller region, than it is to manage and unite a much larger nation whose relations with ethiopia differs depending on the region.
but, still, without the other parties of the eprdf, opdo and andm, tplf wouldn't have ruled for 5 years, forget about 27. oromo and amara elites in the eprdf mistrusted each other to the point that the tplf was able to exploit that and rule. when those elites cooperated, look at how fast the once mighty, armed to the teeth tplf, fled into obscurity and irrelevance.
The only reason why TPLF were able to rule Ethiopia is because Eritrea built up the TPLF armed and trained them, gave them protection from the Ethiopian Derg army and Eritrean EPLF were driving force when the coalition entered Addis Abeba in 1991.
TPLF and OLF had tensions and so the TPLF called Eritrean EPLF to crush OLF during the OLF revolt in 1991.

Then when TPLF was in a position of power they went to war with Eritrea in 1998 and with Somalia in 2006. but TPLF was punished by the Eritrean army for that.

Eritrea left in 1993.

That being said, EPRDF had their own tailored “containment policy” specifically for Eritrea. Another thing that isn’t spoken about enough is that during Abiy Ahmed’s tenure in the NISS (Ethiopian intelligence agency), he was working as a double agent leaking information to Andargachew Tsege (Secretary General of Ginbot 7 at the time, now high up in FANO) who was being hosted in Eritrea at the time alongside OLF. In short, Abiy was at one point a spy for Shabiya. So while it may not have seemed like it, Eritrea had very much penetrated the internal politics of Ethiopia

Eritrea getting intel on Ethiopia and having any influence/power in its internal affairs are two different matters my friend. It was irrelevant after 1993 then.

You're implying Muslim Oromo want to balkanize Ethiopia, which is false. I can understand why Somalis want Ethiopia to disintegrate (until they see the consequences are non stop border wars, which make Ethiopias current situation look like a walk in the park). But Oromos, are different.
The only way that would gain popularity is if somehow, Amara extremist-elites, get power.. which is very unlikely seeing as how they lack allies throughout Ethiopia, especially in Oromia.
This aint the days of haile Selassie and menelik.

As far as the language thing goes, it's a non-issue because many Oromo see Amharic as our 2nd language, not as a "colonizers language." In my family for example, everyone speaks 2 or more languages, which includes Amharic and Afaan Oromo. My dad spoke about 5 languages: Somali, Amharic, Afaan Oromo, etc. Knowing many languages is an asset, not a liability, even IF its "the language of the colonizers."
Oromo nationalism and it's potency, strength, etc, isn't only or necessarily dependent upon the language alone. Enough Oromo speak it and are learning it, writing in it, developing it, etc, for it to always exist.
So the majority of Oromo don't support OLA? OLA online keeps saying 100% of Oromo support OLA
