This root of ح م ر is why i believe muqdisho is a somali word. Because this arabic theory of xamar is quite convincing to me but i don't understand enough somali to recognise if the somali theory is believable. Similarly the theory of muqdisho = muuq disho is 100 times more convincing than maqcad alshah nonsense i was hearing
I havent read much sources though so i may be completely wrong
Muqdisho is of Somali origin, believed to have evolved from the Somali phrase muuq disho.
muuq dil → muuq disho → Muqdisho .
The term "maqcad alshah" is a product of folk etymology among Arab writers. Due to constraints in their understanding of foreign languages, Arab scholars have often erred in their etymological interpretations of cities, nations, and tribes.
the word
ḥamar (
ʔaḥmar /
Xamar ) sometimes appears in older Arabic sources with the meaning "
white".
ḥamar "
Xamar ", meaning "
white " is the reason behind the usage of the term
xamar cadeey.
Xamar = cad .
