The question is, is being a billionaire unethical.

If you have the means to attain such status in a ethical matter, yes it's ethical. I think it's the means that were employed to reach such position that should be questioned, not one's position as a billionaire.

If I become a multi-billionaire for perfecting renewable energy, then mashallah. If I'm oil rich oligarch with bloody hands not so much.

Also pocket watching is not a good look in general:ufdup:

it's immoral but that doesn't mean it's bad. Do what's good for you who cares about others. Colonizing is immoral but it helps your country. My philosophy is as long as it benefits you (even at the expense of others) then it's fine. And no, if it makes you so guilty to the point that you can't sleep at night or feel sad about it then it doesn't benefit you so don't do it.

in a world where there is hunger and starvation, yes. Put it this way, If I took half of the food allocated to a village and hoarded it whilst half the village starved, this would be considered dangerously immoral. So how is this any different?

another way to look at it is would you spend 40 million on a yacht or would you spend that money on a hospital which will save countless lives?

I mean it's immoral whether it's how you got up there or letting others starve while you have billions.

Either way I doubt anyone who's a billionaire would give a shit.

Been there, done that
f*ck billionaires, here's why I hate all of them

Physical manefestion of unethical capitalism.

Lacks the scope, breadth and will to address the whole issue adequately.

Poster boys for neoliberalism

Vanity projects.

tax shelters and nepotistic control/funneling of money and the economy.

Industry sectors need to contort themselves to the whims of a small handful of individuals, giving them full control of the market

Annoying asskissers on the internet.

Barely any of the billionaires are worth mentioning because the vast majority are ruthless immoral wecelo.

Their donations are far less than their active value extraction, and will never make up for their exploitation of workers

Why would you wanna live in a world that relies on a handful of individuals to function? They get to choose where their charities go to (most of them being corrupt anyway) Why give these people the right to decide who gets to live and die?

A lot of entitlement from people in this thread.

If a Muslim Billionaire paid his 2.5% in Zakat every year then who am I to say it's immoral for him being rich?

That is of course assuming he got his money in a Halal fashion

Do you donate $100 to the poor every month? Why not? Giving away $100 a month wouldn't hurt your finances. You have the ability to change lives with practically no effect to you and you don't.

I feel like there's a difference between a billionaire giving away 1% of their wealth and a regular person giving away 1% of theirs. The billionaire needs only 1% of their wealth to live a happy life whereas the regular person needs 80-90% of their wealth to live a happy life.

All billionaires do philanthropy, on top of paying high taxes to deliver social programs.

Specialist doctors only need a 1/3 of what they make to live a happy life. Do we claw back what's theirs too using your logic? Where will it end?
