If the land is not owned by the people getting evicted what's the problem? Any land without ownership belongs to the state.

If people can provide proof they legally purchased the land that’s planned to be sold by the government, they ought to be compensated fairly. In America, eminent domain (taking private property and making it public property) involves giving the amount of money the land is worth to the owner before taking possession of it.

This begs the question, can the people living there prove they obtained that land lawfully.
