Democracy is not religion from a western prespective. It is a system where individuals choose to do as they please to a certain degree bad or good with expected norms. Democracy has its good and bad and America is not an Islamic country either. Since you chose to live in it, you are expected to respect what is acceptable in it and refrain from what is personal that goes against your beliefs. It is fair system that way which lets you as a muslim practice your religion while you are not forced to do what is contrary to your faith.
