The Tree of Life Synagogue attack left 11 people dead and seven others injured.

On the one-year anniversary of the antisemitic attack on the Tree of Life synagogue, American leaders took to social media to express their condolences and look back on the shooting.

Rep. Ilhan Omar was one of those leaders. She took to Twitter on Sunday to talk about the attack and white nationalism in the US.

She wrote, "1 year ago we witnessed the deadliest antisemitic attack in our nation's history at the Tree of Life Synagogue. Holding the victims and survivors in my heart today.

"We must confront the hateful ideology of white nationalism and treat it like the national security threat it is."
The Tree of Life Synagogue attack left 11 people dead and seven others injured and has been labeled as domestic terrorism. The attack took place on October 27 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania while Shabbat morning services were being held.

Nothing has been confirmed. IF she was a man jaydaan would be asking us to give her the benefit of the doubt since the right wing media are out to get her but because she is a woman he wants to demonise the first Somali senator in America and the most powerful Somali politician in the world (let’s be honest).

While I would agree with you if she was a "regular" person, the problem is that she's a public figure and an elected representative who obtained that position nearly exclusively through Somali votes and emphasizing her "Muslimness". The optics of the first ever hijabi in Congress possibly having an affair with a white, Jewish man after establishing herself as someone who constantly attacks white men and makes comments that could be construed as anti-semitic is terrible. Reinforce this with women like AOC and Kamala Harris who also bash white men, yet share beds with them and you create a situation in which young women of colour think they need white men to succeed. Ilhan in particular also reinforces the notion that Muslim women secretly desire white, non-Muslim men, including married hijabis.
Whether the accusations are true is irrelevant - she has put herself and potentially millions of others in a bad situation. As Caesar Augustus once said, "Caesar's wife must be above all suspicion"

That is true, and all the more reason why she should have been more careful. The accusations may very well be false, but she set herself championing the cause of Palestinians and Arabs. She could have done more for Somalia in it's contest with Kenya (something she could win as opposed to Palestine vs. Israel) and otherwise kept a low-profile. Instead, she's done nothing for Somalis except turn our people into lightning rod for facist vitriol. She should have at least had enough sense to hire a female campaign manager. But there is enough ignorance, tribalism, and Somali nationalism in Minnesota to ensure she gets elected again.

Can you prove the majority of her votes came from Somalis? Also she wears a headscarf because she is a Muslim woman. How did she “empathise” her muslimness? Simply for existing and wearing a hijab, I thought the hijab was a religious obligation and not a political one. If she chooses to have a consensual relationship with a Christian or a Jew that’s her business and shouldn’t be used as a political swipe. She is also not Caesar’s wife but a senator who got there on her own right. Somali men are the first to come for our first Somali elective in American politics. Sounds like jealousy to me.

Excellent points, but her base of support was driven by the Somali population. Asking me to prove that is akin to asking me to prove that white Americans voted for Trump.
Secondly, I agree she has the right to have a relationship with whomsoever she chooses, but as the hijab in her case is a religious and not political gesture as you mentioned, then her having an affair would be non-sensual (i.e., I'm about to cheat on my spouse, but let me cover my hair first as God is watching).
Lastly, as a minor point, she is a House Representative, not a Senator which is a more powerful position.

I actually find your comments interesting and I agree with you most of the time, but I do think you're sometimes a bit quick to "jump the gun" about Somali men and feel it's a bit unfair to suggest that I'm jealous. Despite my dislike of several things she's done, Ilhan is very smart, articulate, and likeable, but I think she's put herself in an unenviable position and feel that she should have done a better job in how she projected herself.
I do agree that there is a double-standard with criticism directed at Somali women vs. men though. I'll be the first to criticize Somali male politicians in the US as soon as they match the success of Somali women.

Flattering me won’t make me more susceptible to accepting your sexist remarks. Those who were a hijab must be devoid of any sin what’s so ever.
